Jack O Lanterns come from the Irish legend of Stingy Jack, a man so mean the devil wouldn t let him into hell. He roamed the earth with a lantern made from a turnip and a piece of coal, and became known as Jack of the Lantern. Thus began the ritual of placing Jack O Lanterns in the window to scare away evil spirits.
